JPS mobilising crews to respond to possible severe weather

The Jamaica Public Service Company says it is mobilising crews to respond to severe weather expected to affect the island this weekend.

Audrey Williams, Media and Public Relations Manager at the JPS, said the company has conducted simulation exercises and a vegetation management programme as part of preparations for the hurricane season.

She said it has also been assessing and addressing the integrity of its pole infrastructure.

Despite there being global supply chain issues, Ms. Williams added that the company has been trying to "strategically locate" and increase its inventory of materials to prevent communities from being marooned in the event of severe weather.

The JPS is reminding its customers that the severe weather system may result in extended power outages, as has been experienced in neighbouring territories.

Once the system has passed, members of the public must avoid downed power lines.
