Lawyers await DPP's ruling in case against former West Indies Petroleum directors

By Racquel Porter

The prosecutors in the case against former directors of West Indies Petroleum Limited, Courtney Wilkinson and John Levy, who are accused of breaching the Cybercrimes Act, are awaiting a ruling from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Last October, defence attorneys requested a review of the case file by the DPP's office.

When the matter came up in the Kingston & St. Andrew Parish Court Wednesday, attorney Demetrie Adams, who is prosecuting the matter along with Ian Walter Scott KC, informed the court that additional time is needed by the DPP's office to review the 430-page case file.

Mr. Wilkinson and Mr. Levy have been charged with unauthorised access to computer programme or data, conspiracy to gain unauthorised access and conspiracy to access with intent to commit or facilitate the commission of an offence.

It is alleged that, on February 16, 2021, Mr. Wilkinson and Mr. Levy gained unauthorised access to the emails of the Chief Executive Officer of West Indies Petroleum and three senior staff members.

Information technology specialist Winston Henry allegedly assisted.

Their bail has been extended until April 18.
