Man allegedly punches ex and damages her car

A St James man who reportedly attacked his ex-girlfriend, damaged her car and threatened to kill her is booked to stand trial in the St James Parish Court on April 21.

The defendant, Jachin Green, is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, malicious destruction of property, and issuing threats. He was given the trial date when he appeared in court on Wednesday.

Allegations are that on February 28, at 7:30 p.m., the complainant was parking her Nissan AD Expert motor car along the Jimmy Cliff Boulevard in Montego Bay, when she heard a banging sound on the vehicle. She looked up and saw Green outside the car. He reached through the window and punched her on the right side of her head while threatening to kill her.

Green also reportedly threw an object into the car's windscreen, and the complainant sped off. She subsequently discovered that there was damage to the car's right rear door.

It is further alleged that on March 17, Green called the complainant and again threatened to kill her. She made a report to the police. When lawmen went to detain Green, under caution he allegedly said, "Mi call her because mi waan talk to her, why she call police pon me?" following which he was arrested and charged.

During Wednesday's court proceedings, presiding Parish Judge Sasha-Marie Ashley was informed that the medical certificate and a receipt for the damage done to the complainant's vehicle were outstanding from the prosecution's case file. It was also disclosed that the parties had previously been referred to mediation, but that process was unsuccessful.

Judge Ashley subsequently ordered that Green should be remanded until April 21, when the case file is expected to be completed.
