Multiple robot taxis seized in St Catherine

Cops from the Guys Hill Police Station in St Catherine seized several illegal (robot) taxis during an operation in the area on Thursday.

The police say the operation forms part of their drive against indiscipline motorists, including those who operate as taxi cabs despite not been licensed to do so.

The reopening of schools has resulted in an increase in illegal operators on the streets.

"We want the operators to be properly licensed to serve the travelling public, the police will ensuring that they comply with the Road Traffic Act," Sergeant Kenneth McTavish said.

During the operation police seized vehicles operating contrary to the term of their licensed.

"I realised that the police are working seriously, if the bike not proper they seized it and same treatment for the robot cars," Jerry Stewart a motorist said.

Meanwhile, McTavish said the police and the operators will be having a meeting to forge cooperation.
