NWA making preparations for upcoming hurricane season

By Halshane Burke

The National Works Agency (NWA) is taking steps to lessen any potential effects during the Atlantic hurricane season.

The season kicks off on Thursday June 1.

NWA Communication Manager Stephen Shaw says the agency has met with relevant stakeholders to ensure the measures can be seamlessly triggered, as required.

"We pretty much know the lay of the land. We know where the critical drains are. Usually, we don't get enought to focus on everything, but we do focus on those that we consider of importance at the get go," he said.

"Where we are now is we are awaiting the usual funds that we get from the Ministry of Finance to undertake the first tranche of our mitigation programme, so we await that before we can make any announcements as to what it is that we're going to be spending and where it is that we're going to be spending."
