One of two men who broke lock on gate to Bog Walk Gorge apologises

One of two men seen on video trying to remove the padlock on the gate to the Bog Walk Gorge after it became flooded on Monday has come forward to tell his story.

In an interview with Radio Jamaica News, he explained that he was trying to return to his house - which is just about two minutes from the gate - with his four-month-old child who was ill.

The man said he was in a desperate situation, as he waited at the gate for "about an hour" and even attempted to get the help of the MP or anyone else with authority to open it.

He and another man seen in the video eventually broke the lock.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness told Parliament on Wednesday that the police have been instructed to fully investigate the matter.

Noting that he is a "working man" who didn't want "anything [to] block my career", the man said he intends to visit the police in case they need to speak with him about the incident.

But he told Radio Jamaica News he was "sincerely sorry" for his actions and wishes he could "take it back".

He reiterated that it was "just because of my sick kid why we really take it out of proportion".
