One suspect detained in connection with Sunday's ATM robbery

 By Clinton McGregor

The police have detained a suspect in connection with Sunday's $23 million heist at a Scotiabank ATM in Braeton Park in Portmore, St Catherine.

Four security guards attached to Berylium - part of the Guardsman group of companies, as well as a licensed firearm holder, were wounded during the attack.

The security guards were about to service the ATM when they were shot by armed thugs with high powered weapons.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Branch, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cleon Marsh told Radio Jamaica News that the investigators have made significant progress in the case.

He admitted that the police had not yet recovered any of the money taken during the robbery but said the police had identified the likely perpetrators, " and we are making inroads in concluding this investigation."

It was a "very complex, multi-faceted" investigation, he noted, but asserted that "we are up to the task and we are very optimistic that a breakthrough is imminent."
