National Director for Jamaica Youth For Christ, Reverend Dexter Johnson, has joined the call for the safe return or information leading to the whereabouts of missing dancehall artiste Stephanie 'Medikk' Williams.
Williams has been missing since August 24, more than a month ago. She was reportedly last seen boarding a taxi outside her apartment. Johnson joined Williams' mother Millicent McCurdy and others during a peaceful protest yesterday outside the Constant Spring Police Station in St Andrew, where the missing person's report was made. Johnson said the situation is most frightening and continues to suggest that we live in a nation that is in trouble.
"When young ladies can't leave their homes freely and return home, then as a nation and a people we must be troubled," he said. Johnson said that in a real way, the protesters are demanding some form of justice because somebody saw something. Johnson said Williams belongs to someone who loves her and misses her.
"So my real challenge is not about whether or not she is involved in dancehall or whatever. She is a life and every life to God is precious. We are a nation that is in trouble and we must cry out. We must stand for righteousness because righteousness will exalt a nation," Johnson told THE STAR.
Johnson is also calling on the authorities to use the tools and technology available, citing the JamaicaEye network, to find the entertainer.
"We know the God that we serve and we are continuing to trust that God. God works with human hands, man and others, so we are appealing that those who saw something need to say something," Johnson said.
McCurdy wept openly at the protest as she begged the nation for help in finding her daughter or obtaining useful information.
"Jamaica I am desperate... I am seeking you to come onboard with me. I need help," a tearful McCurdy said. She told our news team that information from the investigators is not forthcoming.
Long-time friend of the missing entertainer Daniel Morrison, also called on the authorities, including Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Justice Minister Delroy Chuck to assist the family in getting justice for Williams.
"We have a special bond... and to hear what has happened to Stephanie, something is not right. To find out that she has been missing for so long, there are so many pieces of evidence and no suspect held; no one is coming out," Morrison said.
He called on Holness and Chuck to come onboard and prove that Jamaica is not a 'back a wall' country.
"The missing females and missing children [thing], it is happening too much. So many cases going unsolved. We need to have a country that we can be proud of," Morrison said.
Williams is known for her social media presence and songs Boss Level with Jahvillani and Like Wah.
