PM off to Washington for security talks, targeting gun smugglers

Prime Minister Andrew Holness will be heading to Washington DC later on Tuesday for talks with US officials about security cooperation between Jamaica and the United States.

Specifically, the Prime Minister explained at a press conference in Kingston that he will hold discussions with the US Department of Justice and the FBI about stemming the illegal flow of guns and ammunition into Jamaica.

During his address at the annual conference of the governing Jamaica Labour Party last month, Mr Holness announced that he would be seeking the cooperation of US security agencies in targeting Jamaican gangsters in the United States who send arms and ammunition to their cronies in Jamaica.

He confirmed on Tuesday that this pursuit will be on the agenda during his talks in Washington.
