PNP could have gone further with ganja lesgislation - Golding

Opposition leader Mark Golding has acknowledged that the former PNP government could have gone much further with the ganja legislation which it introduced in 2015.

He believes it should have given more autonomy to certain groups such as Rastafarians.

Mr. Golding was Justice Minister when the Dangerous Drugs Act was amended to facilitate the medicinal marijuana industry.

The initiative was praised and sparked economic activity, but there was concern that international financial institutions were not ready or willing to facilitate the industry at the time.

In addition, the local marijuana industry is very restrictive and requires significant capital for investment.

Mr. Golding addressed the matter last Wednesday while speaking on TVJ's All Angles.
