Police trying to identify suspects who attempted to steal ATM in Manchester

By Racquel Porter

The Manchester police are combing through CCTV footage to identify the gunmen who attempted to rob another automated teller machine, in Mandeville, Manchester this morning.

According to the police, about 2 o'clock, armed men physically assaulted the guard on duty at Bank House Mall on Manchester Road.

Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, head of the Corporate Communications Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, said the guard was beaten by the men, who later left the location.

"When the police responded, they ran, leaving behind the machine as well as some of the items that were stolen from the security guards that were on duty at the location. So [police] are now conducting an investigation, trying to see if they can identify the individuals who were involved," she disclosed.

SSP Lindsay said although the robbers dislodged the machine, they were unable to remove the cash it contained.

The incident comes two days after criminals shot and injured three security guards in Portmore, St. Catherine, while they were servicing an ATM.
