Portland man arrested for fatally stabbing nephew

By Kimone Witter

The Portland police have arrested a man in connection with the fatal stabbing of his 53-year-old nephew in Mill Bank on Thursday morning.

The deceased is Linton Palmer of a Mill Bank address.

It's reported that the suspect was at his home about 8:30 when Mr. Palmer went there and started an argument.

Mr. Palmer took up part of a wheel barrow and beat his uncle.

The uncle then used a knife to stab Mr. Palmer to the left side of his chest resulting in his death.

Addressing the Annual General Meeting of the Portland Lay Magistrates Association Thursday, Superintendent in charge of Portland, Lloyd Darby, said the murder is the third in the parish.

He said Mr. Palmer and his uncle, both reported to be mentally ill, had frequent altercations.

Superintendent Darby appealed for Justices of the Peace and community members to intervene when they get reports of domestic disputes.

"With enough concern by other community members, some of the issues can be alleviated, some of these results don't have to be. And we ask you as JPs, look out for these issues; speak to the people in your community," he urged.
