Public sector dental assistants restive

There could be disruptions in dental care in the public health system today (Wednesday) as government-paid dental assistants are expected to protest the lack of adjustments to their salaries under the public sector compensation review programme.

The workers, who are employed to hospitals and health centres, were reportedly informed that instructions were not given for salaries to be paid under the new payment structure.

St. Patrice Ennis, General Secretary of the Union of Technical, Administrative and Supervisory Personnel, told Radio Jamaica News that the dental assistants are upset arising from this development.

He stressed that the workers are already struggling to meet their financial obligations and are disappointed that there is no word on when they will be paid under the new structure.
