Shaw to address Parliament today on Road Traffic Act

Transport Minister Audley Shaw is expected to make a statement later today (Tuesday) in the House of Representatives regarding the New Road Traffic Act.

There have been widespread calls for changes to the law following its implementation last week.

On Monday there was a wave of protests by taxi and bus operators across several parishes. The operators said they had withdrawn their service because of some of the provisions of the law, including heavier fines.

A number of schools island-wide were affected to varying degrees by the strike, with some opting for online classes.

Major transport operator associations have since called for their members to end the protest action and allow for continued discussions with the government.
