St. Ann escapee killed during alleged police confrontation

One of the 4 men who escaped from the Ocho Rios Police lockup in St Ann in August this year was shot and killed, reportedly in a confrontation with the St Ann Police in Hamstead Runaway Bay yesterday.

He has been identified as 40-year-old Terrence Harrilal, of Claremont in the parish.

About 5:05pm the police carried out a targetted raid in the Hampstead, Runaway Bay in search of Harrilal, who, along with three others, escaped from the Ocho Rios lockup earlier this year.

He was in custody after being charged with shooting with intent.

The police team was reportedly leaving the area when the escapee was seen along the roadway.

It is said that when he was approached, he pulled an object from his waistband and the police took evasive action then shot him.

A homemade firearm with 2 (12) gauge cartridges was reportedly taken from him.

He was taken to the St Anns Bay Regional hospital where he was pronounced dead.
