Member of Parliament for St. Catherine North-Central, Natalie Neita-Garvey has raised health concerns about the frequent contamination of the Rio Cobre and is calling for health practitioners to independently test the water and residents of Kent Village in St Catherine.

Mrs. Garvey says residents have been diagnosed with rare forms of cancer.

She believes the spate of contamination of the river, which has caused major fish kills over the years, may have contributed to the failing health of some residents.
