Teachers remain restive over unpaid salary

There is an atmosphere of restiveness in the public school system as some teachers are yet to be paid their March salary.

The Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) says some of its members still have not been paid and has labeled this an example of blatant disrespect for educators.

In a letter to its members on Tuesday, the JTA said it could not guarantee normality on Wednesday.

It says, while some members are in receipt of payment, there are questions about the accuracy of the sums provided.

JTA President La Sonja Harrison has asserted that whatever sums are due to educators must be calculated and paid in a timely manner to ensure their monthly obligations are met.

The JTA is calling for the government to make provisions to offset interest payments accrued on teachers' loans and other credit facilities.

The Association is also concerned about the threat of repossession of items and the impact of the current situation on members' credit ratings.
