Teachers restive over delay in appointments

Some government-paid teachers are reportedly restive over the delay in their appointments despite meeting performance standards.

The Jamaica Teachers' Association, JTA, says the delay is due to the failure of the Ministry of Finance to approve the posts.

In an interview with Radio Jamaica News yesterday, JTA President Winston Smith said the teachers are being negatively impacted.

And with scores of educators leaving the classrooms to take up jobs overseas, school administrators have started the process of filling vacancies in an effort to prevent disruption in the new academic year.

Meanwhile, the Jamaica Teachers' Association is to review the latest wage offer from the Ministry of  Finance this week
