There was a break-in Wednesday morning at the National Water Commission offices in St. Ann's Bay, St. Ann.

Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell, Commanding Officer for St. Ann, said the thieves attempted to gain access to a vault but were unsuccessful.

"All we know is that the break-in took place but nothing has been reported stolen so far," he said.

At the same time, SSP Powell sought to reassure residents of St. Ann that there has been a reduction in acquisitive crimes, including break-ins.

"We are seeing some 55 per cent less acquisitory crimes. So in terms of numbers, we have had 20 reported, with over 50 last year," he disclosed.
