Traffic Court to begin night and Saturday sittings

Starting next Monday, December 5, the Corporate Area Traffic Court will begin sittings of night and Saturday Court to adjudicate on traffic violations.

Night court will run from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and Saturday court will sit from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Motorists with outstanding traffic tickets are advised to contact the Corporate Area Traffic Court or the Court Administration Division for further details.

In an interview with Radio Jamaica News earlier this week, Chief Justice Bryan Sykes said night and Saturday sittings of the Traffic Court was being contemplated to deal with an increased number of people turning up to rid themselves of outstanding tickets.

The increase was likely triggered by a warning that the regulations under the new road traffic act could come into effect in short order.

Under the regulations, the Island Traffic Authority has the ability to suspend a person's drivers license for various traffic violations.

But there has been no official word from the government on an effective date for the regulations.
