UWI carnival slated for 2023 return

The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Guild of Students has announced that its signature staging of carnival will return this year, starting with a band launch later this month.

The event, which forms part of the university’s efforts to revitalise its campus scene, is themed “The Ethereal Experience”, which the guild says serves to re-energise the carnival scene on campus since being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Philmark Miller, the guild’s Cultural Entertainment Affairs chairperson said, “The anticipation could not be higher for the return of UWI Carnival and I for one am beyond excited for this diamond in the culture and entertainment calendar.”

Miller emphasised that he and his team have been working tirelessly to ensure that UWI Carnival 2023 will “be like no other.”

Following the band launch on February 11, several other events will be undertaken, including Glo J’ouvert: Aurora Night, vibrant Carnival Road March: The Milky Way & D’After Mas and a Beach Carnival Party: Cooler Fete.
