Will Smith opens up about Oscar Awards incident on 'The Daily Show'

Academy Award-winning actor Will Smith has opened up about his now infamous Oscar outburst during his appearance on "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah" last night.

He stated that his bottled rage led him to assault comedian Chris Rock on stage, describing it as a horrific night.

Smith stormed the stage at the Hollywood award ceremony after Rock made a joke about his wife Jada's shaved head, oblivious to her hair loss condition, alopecia.

He told Noah that he now understands the often-quoted theory that "hurt people, hurt people,"  because he was going through something that night.

It is the first time Smith had been publicly challenged about the attack, which made headlines, sparked outrage, and ultimately resulted in a 10-year ban by the Academy of Motion Picture.

His appearance on the show to promote his new film "Emancipation," set for release next week.

Smith said his hope is that his actions will not negatively impact the support of the many talented and hardworking people who took part in the project.
