Windalco strike notice cancelled

The 72 hour strike notice served on bauxite and alumina company Windalco has been called off.

Vincent Morrison, President of the Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees,  told Radio Jamaica News that at a meeting on Monday the workers and the company agreed to two days of negotiations to clear up outstanding issues.

He said the cancellation of the strike notice is not an indication that either the union or the workers have become less strident in their position, but that it signals a willingness to compromise as the company has also adjusted its stance.

Last week more than 600 production workers employed by Windalco, a subsidiary of the Russian alumina company, UC Rusal, voted to take industrial action following a breakdown of wage negotiations.
