Tributes pour in for former SKN Governor-General Sir Tapley Seaton

Tributes are being paid to former St Kitts and Nevis Governor-General Sir S.W. Tapley Seaton following his death.

The 73-year-old, who was the fourth Governor General of St Kitts and Nevis, demitted office in January after serving in the position since 2015.

In her condolence message, Governor-General Dame Marcella Liburb, who replaced Tapley Seaton, said the country owes the former head of state a great debt for his service.

“The Federation has truly lost a great son of the soil. His life was one of dedicated service. He fought and defended the rights of our people. Through his efforts, Sir Tapley Seaton crafted The Constitution and many other pieces of legislation. Our Federation has been the beneficiary of his great stewardship,” she said.

The country’s first prime minister Kennedy Simmonds said the country has lost a great statesman and legal mind.

“I am still greatly saddened by the passing of my friend and our former Governor-General, the late Sir Tapley Seaton. Tapley Seaton was a good man. He was thoughtful, humble, and caring. He had a listening ear, or helping hand for the people of this Country, whether they be of high or low estate. He made Government House the People’s House, and he was himself accessible to the ordinary citizen,” Simmonds said in his tribute.

Former Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris said Tapley Seaton’s death has engulfed him with “immense sadness”.

Harris thanked Tapley Seaton for his service to the country.
