1. Chinese center Li Yueru heads to the U.S. to play WNBA
Chinese center Li Yueru departed for the United States on May 21 to play for the Chicago Sky in the current Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) campaign.
Li, 23, was drafted by the Atlanta Dream in the third round (35th overall) of the 2019 WNBA Draft. The Los Angeles Sparks acquired her rights in February 2022, and the Chicago Sky later acquired the rights in March.
2. Chinese Super League team Chongqing Liangjiang Athletic disbanded before the new season, Dalian Pro reinstated
Chongqing Liangjiang Athletic announced on May 24 that they would cease operations, disband their teams and pull out of the Chinese Super League ahead of the upcoming 2022 season.
The Chinese Football Association later announced that Dalian Pro, who was relegated last season, will return to China's top football league to fill the vacancy.
3. 2022 Chinese Super League announces schedule for first phase
The schedule for the first phase of the 2022 Chinese Super League (CSL) was released on its official Weibo account on May 28, and 18 clubs will play 10 rounds in three host cities of Meizhou, Haikou and Dalian.
According to the schedule, the first phase (rounds 1-10) of the CSL will start on June 3 and end on July 12. During the 40-day span, a total of 90 matches will be played.
4. China's teenager Zheng stuns former world No. 1 Halep at Roland Garros
19-year-old Zheng Qinwen achieved the biggest victory of her career at the French Open on May 26, rallying to beat two-time Grand Slam winner Simona Halep 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 to reach the third round of the clay major.
5. Chinese pair Zheng/Huang win mixed doubles at Thailand Open
Chinese pair Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong defeated Thailand's Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai 21-12, 18-21 and 21-14 for the mixed doubles title at the badminton Thailand Open on May 22.
6. Hangzhou 2022 venues open to public for pre-Games use
According to the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games Organizing Committee, 56 competition venues and 31 training facilities that have already passed inspection and acceptance will be open to the public starting July 1 this year.
With protection and maintenance that meets the Games standard, the pre-Games use aims to meet the growing needs of the public and accumulate experience for after-Games uses.
