She has been creating beautiful clothes for many women and helping them find confidence within their styles. Meet one creative and amazing fashion designer, ‘Mataolo Makubela is a self-taught fashion designer from Maseru; who’s been making wonders in her stylish creations. She started her crafts back in 2021 with the courage she got from her mother.

In an interview with ‘Mataolo Makubela, she tells Finite Magazine that as a fashion lover, helping women find confidence in how they dress is one of her core reasons for choosing to be a fashion designer. She says she has always looked up to her mother who is also a fashion designer and, watched her as she did her work and drew inspiration from that.

“I love fashion very much that is why I chose to be a designer. I was moved by my mother when I saw her work. She is a hard worker in fashion designing,” enlightened Makubela.

Although she so much wanted to be a soldier while growing up, the intelligent woman had a change of plans and fell for fashion designing. At the beginning she started by using her mother’s sewing machine which had been laying around the house unused. It took her just 3 weeks to develop the skill of sewing and she started designing clothes. With the love and passion she had for fashion designing she then continued to design for clients and finally, opened a business.

The 23 year old tailor now runs her own business of producing women’s clothes. She admits that it is making great progress. Every business has challenges – Makubela mentioned a few including the issue where some clients would be troublesome and demand money back, claiming not to want the clothes anymore. The brainy woman managed to overcome these challenges and revealed that she experiences less of such problems now.

Makubela concluded by encouraging women who love fashion designing to work hard, have patience and never lose hope when they don’t get clients as they so wish.

“I’d love to advice women to do fashion designing only if it’s from the bottom of their hearts, not because they saw someone else do it”, sealed Makubela.
