Police in Lumbadzi have re-arrested a 22-year-old man, Isaac Samalani on September 27, 2023 for allegedly escaping from lawful custody at Lumbadzi Police Station where he was kept as he was answering a criminal charge of having carnal knowledge with a minor at Mkukula First Grade Magistrate Court.
In March this year, Samalani together with other suspects were taken out from the cells to ease themselves and he captilized the opportunity by jumping the brick fenced wall and disappeared into the maize field.
Well wishers tipped the whereabouts of Samalani to police officers who swiftly nabbed him at Mtengowanthenga in Dowa where he was in hiding.
He will be taken to court soon to answer charges of escaping from lawful custody and having carnal knowledge with a minor contrary to sections 115 and 138 of the penal code respectively.
He hails from Chuwandira village, Traditional Authority Chitukula in Lilongwe.
