Minister of Information, Moses Kunkuyu, has confirmed the passing of former Malawi Congress Party President, John Zenus Ungapake Tembo.

Kunkuyu said Malawi has lost a statesman who was also an instrumental figure behind various developmental initiatives in the country.

The Minister has appealed to Malawians to remain united during this time and said that details about the funeral program will be announced in due course.

Tembo passed away after being admitted to one of the private clinics in Lilongwe following a short illness.

He had previously served as the Reserve Bank Governor and held various ministerial positions during Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda’s tenure.
