PETALING JAYA: A 43-year-old Sri Lankan man died at the Jinjang central lockup at the Sentul police headquarters last night.

Bukit Aman integrity and standards compliance director Azri Ahmad said the detainee’s death was confirmed by a medical officer from Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

He said the man, who was detained for a murder case, complained of chest pains at about 11pm.

“The hospital was immediately contacted,” he said in a statement.

“An assistant medical officer from HKL arrived to provide treatment and confirmed the man’s death.”

Azri said HKL will conduct a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

He also said Bukit Aman’s death in custody investigation unit will probe the man’s death.
