Cabinet endorses Khomas district hospital project

Cabinet on Thursday endorsed the ongoing consultations for the development and construction of a district hospital in the Khomas region.

Thirty-three years after independence, Khomas, Kavango East and Oshana are the only regions without district hospitals in the country.

The proposed project is expected to ease the burden on Katutura state and Windhoek central hospitals, which are referral hospitals.

In 2014, the City of Windhoek notified the Ministry of Health and Social Services of the site identified for the hospital at farm 508 Havana.

To ensure the successful implementation of the project, the cabinet directed the health ministry, finance ministry and the National Planning Commission to mobilise the necessary financial resources.

Cabinet further directed the health ministry and the Office of the Prime Minister to develop a staff establishment for the hospital.
