High Court to have trials in Kavango East, Zambezi

The High Court is set to have circuit court sessions in the Kavango East and Zambezi regions during August, the Office of the Judiciary has announced.

The court is planning to have sessions at Rundu from 1 to 15 August, and at Katima Mulilo from 17 to 31 August, judiciary spokesperson Vikitoria Hango said in a media statement on Tuesday.

High Court judge president Petrus Damaseb will be presiding during the court’s hearings in the two north-eastern regions.
The court is due to deal with eight criminal cases during its circuit court sessions.

The judge president identified the need for circuit court sessions in the two regions in an effort to promote access to justice and to alleviate the caseload of criminal matters in the two regions, Hango said.
The accused persons and witnesses who are to be called to testify in the eight cases to be heard are from Rundu and Katima Mulilo, Hango added.

The High Court normally deals with cases at its main division in Windhoek and its northern local division at Oshakati only.
