Nascam appoints Nicanor as new CEO

The board of directors of the Namibian Society of Composers and Authors of Music (Nascam) has announced the appointment of Albert Nicanor as its new chief executive officer (CEO) from 1 August.

Nicanor is set to lead Nascam into its next phase of development and success.

Bringing a wealth of inspirational leadership and strategic thinking skills, Nicanor is well-prepared to guide Nascam, the board says in a statement.

His impressive track record as a manager at New Era Investment, deputy director and development planner at the Ministry of Justice, financial technical adviser at Lux Development, and financial and administration manager at Roshkor Township, positions him favourably to fulfil the organisation’s goals, the board says.

The board says the recruitment and selection process was meticulously conducted by an independent committee of experts, ensuring transparency and impartiality.

Following the resignation of the former CEO in December 2022, the board says it has decided to keep the process independent of their influence.

Three individuals were initially selected for the CEO recruitment and selection committee: Emilia Nghikembua, the CEO of the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia, Valentina Schaneck, the human resources manager of the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board, and Sam Shivute, the CEO of the Namibia Revenue Agency.

However, due to unforeseen schedule changes, Shivute was replaced by Jonas Ileka, the human resources manager of MeatCo.

The committee received a total of 19 applications, and unanimously recommended Nicanor for the CEO position, who accepted the offer on 28 June.
