Newborn found alive in river bed

A newborn baby boy was found alive in a river bed between Windhoek’s Ombili and Hakahana informal settlements on Thursday morning.

The whereabouts of the mother are unknown.

Khomas region police spokesperson warrant officer Silas Shipandeni said the infant was rushed to a hospital.

“We are still looking for a possible perpetrator or suspect in that regard who we believe to be the mother of this particular newborn,” Shipandeni said.

He added that the police cannot tell if the baby was born on the same day it was discovered, as they are waiting to hear from the hospital.

“According to preliminary investigations, especially at the scene, we can confirm that there is a possibility that the baby was born today (Thursday),” he said.
