Okapandi Gang drops ‘Shonena’

KING Classic and Agu, who make up the Okapandi Gang duo, last month released a new song titled ‘Shonena’ along with a music video.

The duo plans to release an album, also called ‘Shonena’, in the middle of this month. The song serves as a preview of what to expect, said the duo.

‘Shonena’ is primarily concerned with the past, present and future.

Drum Kick Production, Shetuvene Records, Obeat oya Shorty, DJ Chronic, ChakiBeatz and YKMP Studio, worked together to create the 18-track Afro-pop album.

On the album, ‘Shonena’, ‘Omitakati’ with K-dio, and ‘Eendjila’ featuring T3X, are the top tracks to listen for.

According to King Classic, “We collaborated on this project with a variety of Namibian artists, including Las Bonza, K-dio, Dizzo Dee, Choice 1, Imms Short Man, Kaboy Kamakili, Lil P, Plan Boi, Quzza Kastano, T3X, Cotta Wandunde, Tall G, Omatenda Boys and Anton.”

“We do music not just for the money or the fame, but also to reach out to young people,” said Agu.

He said while many people view music as a means of dancing and amusement, for the musicians, giving a voice to the voiceless was their priority when they began making music.

The pair entered the music scene in early 2018 and released ‘Mofuka’, their debut project, in 2020.

“The market was difficult overall. As a result, that was just the beginning and our skills weren’t enough,” King Classic said, adding that, “Although it wasn’t easy, because the Covid-19 pandemic distracted businesses and the nation, we pulled up strong; targeting what’s forward and we almost managed the marketing.”

The pair said last year they decided to start another project in response to demand from their fans.
