Swakop culpable homicide suspect takes own life

In a tragic sequence of incidents at Swakopmund’s DRC informal settlement on Sunday, a culpable homicide suspect, linked to the death of a 14-year-old girl, look his own life.

According to a report from the Erongo police spokesperson, inspector Ileni Shapumba, the first incident occurred between 09h00 and 10h00.

“An unlicensed employee at a local car wash commandeered a taxi, which was brought in for cleaning. The individual proceeded to drive the vehicle to DRC, where he collided with a cyclist,” said Shapumba.

The victim of this collision was identified as Theopolina Iyambo, a pupil at the Atlantic Junior Secretary School, Tamariskia. According to the police report, Theopolina was pronounced dead at the scene and her next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, leading to additional charges of reckless or negligent driving and driving a motor vehicle without a valid licence.

A twist to the narrative followed.

“While police officers were investigating the culpable homicide, they received a report of a suicide at the Wagdaar area, at approximately 10h05.”

Subsequent investigation revealed the deceased was the same individual suspected in the culpable homicide incident at DRC. The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Kamati Tokomo, a foreign national working at the car wash at Mondesa.

Shapumba confirmed that Tokomo allegedly hanged himself in his shack.
