Teen shot and injured in attempted robbery

A boy (17) has been hospitalised in the Rundu Intermediate Hospital after allegedly being shot by a security guard during a failed robbery at Rundu’s Kehemu location on Saturday.

Kavango East acting regional commander deputy commissioner Lucia Kahuure confirmed the incident.

She said the guard was responding to a robbery which the victim allegedly drew a knife in an attempt to stab the guard.

“Thereafter, the victim ran to a house next to the bar, which prompted a chase by the security, and in the process the guard shot and injured the victim,” said Kahuure.

The victim was admitted to the hospital and is in stable condition. He is a pupil at Dr Romanus Kampungu Secondary School.

The security guard (43) has been arrested on charges of attempted murder and discharging of a firearm in a public area.

In another unrelated incident, the remains of a woman (26), who allegedly took her own life were discovered in the bushes near the Okavango River’s Mabiye Beach on Saturday morning.
She has been identified as Eveline Ndara, a resident of Kehemu location.

She left a suicide note behind.
