We have the budget for unwanted babies – ministry

Minister of gender equality, poverty eradication and social welfare Doreen Sioka has lashed out against women who abandon their newborn babies, urging them to take the babies to her ministry.

Sioka was speaking at the commemoration of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (TIP) and the launch of the TIP plan of action at Oshikango on Friday.

“Wherever I go, there are only killings, raping and babies being dumped. As I am speaking now, something is already happening out there. Stop it.

“How can you dump babies? We have been telling you if you don’t want those babies, give it to the ministry of gender, we can look after those babies. We have a budget for those babies.

“The important thing is that you register that baby at birth so that they are documented, and later, when you see your life is well and you want your child, you come to us,” she said.
