3000 women gather for convention

“Women rise up” is the theme for Nazarene’s 14th National Women’s Ministry Convention in Lae as women today are discussed locally and globally as agents of change.

The biennial event drew participation from all 22 provinces of the country and is the biggest movement for the church with more than 3000 delegates participating with Jiwaka Province being the largest in attendance with more than 1000.

National Women’s Ministry president Rosen Kiap said the event motivates women and encourages spiritual development.

“It also helps them to go forward despite struggles and whatever they go through as part of their daily life,” Mrs Kiap said.

Many of the women have different backgrounds and come from all walks of life.

“Some have experienced violence, were deserted, from broken homes and widows. Through this event, they share their experiences with one another.

“They get spiritual enlightenment from the convention because the purpose of the event is to empower and motivate these women to be self-reliant and be able to live life to the fullest despite their struggles and challenges.

“They hold sessions to make their Christian lives strong and focus on the Lord and saviour Jesus because he is the bearer of all sins, problems and heartache and he will ease the women’s burden when they have faith and trust in him,” Mrs Kiap.

The gathering empowers and encourages women to have an impact on their communities and be part of their church’s development through their churches.

“We see that God has made it possible for the women because this year was the biggest number yet and that proves the movement of God in each of our lives,” Mrs Kiap said.
