51 students arrested

51 students from the University of Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE) were arrested by the East New Britain police this morning.

Among those who were picked up from the Vudal campus were the SRC president and 2 students who were behind the burning of the vehicles.

Provincial Police Commander Chief Superintendent, Januaris Vosivai confirmed the students are currently at the holding cell at the Kokopo Police Station.

“They are being processed and will appear in court tomorrow,” he said.

The 51 were the first lot of students to be brought to the station.

PPC Vosivai said that police were ‘obstructed’ from picking up the second lot of students.

More arrests are expected today.
