‘An experience worth sharing’

Kepler Lukies will bring back to Philippines an experience worth sharing with families and friends after competing in the recently completed ICC Men’s T20 World Cup East Asia Pacific Finals in Port Moresby.

The 16-year-old was also outstanding for the Philippines team claiming five wickets on the final day of competition on Saturday against Vanuatu.

“I’ve played or made my debut prior to coming here and this is my second tour with the team (Philippines).

“It’s an honour to come here and play and, especially, against the quality of all three oppositions. It has been a good time,” he said.

Lukies thanked his dad (Tim Lukies) for always having the impact in his cricket journey.

“He has been my coach as well since my junior cricket days and it is a great opportunity and experience for us both.”

Taking out the five wicket haul, Lukies said it was all the team effort as well that motivated him.

“I think it was luck and I felt like I had a good feeling heading into the match. We gave all we had in our last match and unfortunately we didn’t get the result we wanted,” said Lukies.

Started at the age of four in the Under 12 cricket, Lukies whose mum is of Philippines heritage said he is excited to take part in the tournament.

“Incredibly excited…good bunch of teammates who showed a lot of care and effort.
“Being the youngest, it will only get better,” said Lukies.

He said there are a lot of positive things he has learnt from the tournament.

“Yes, my first time in PNG.

“The people are friendly,” said Lukies.

When asked about any word of advice for other young kids who wish to take up cricket, Lukies said just give every effort, don’t look back and leave everything on the cricket pitch.
