Bible college receives K100,000 from EHP government

By Nelson Joe

The Eastern Highlands provincial government has assisted a Bible college with funding support.

Governor Simon Sia presented the cheque of K100,000 to the Goroka Baptist Bible College on Wednesday.

Chancellor Bill Smith and president Gundu Amugl received the funding assistance on behalf of the college.

Mr Sia said the support was to clear the commitment his office had made in February during the groundbreaking ceremony of the college and a clinic.

Mr Sia acknowledged that churches have “silently” been contributing in delivering education and health services to the people apart from fulfilling the spiritual needs of the people over the years.

“I have seen you and your partner almost every day doing so much not only in Unggai-Bena district but also in Goroka and other districts,” Mr Sia said.

“You deserve to be supported in providing health and education services apart from preaching the gospel.”

He said the funding support is the beginning of the provincial government to partner with churches in delivering basic services to the people.

He also expressed confidence that the funding support will be used appropriately.
Chancellor Smith said they will divide the money equally between the college and the clinic that they run.”
