Blockbuster outing setfor CRU women’s division

The Pepsi Capital Rugby Union women’s premier 15’s competition is set for blockbuster action as the best players in country go head to head in the start of the playoffs in Port Moresby on Saturday.

Whilst the CRU failed to dominate the PNG Cassowaries as the only viable 15s competition in the country, their club rivalry begs to differ with a high benchmark set that is unrivaled in country.

The cream of that crop will be action with reigning champions Credit Corporation Harlequins taking on a vibrant Juggernauts in the major semi-final, while Moni Plus Nova meets Kramer Ausenco Brothers in the knockout clash.

A feature of the major semi-final will see dual international Joanne Lagona and PNG Palais wider squad members Helen A’bau, Taiva Lavai, Cassandra Sampson and Chelsea Garesa pressing the Juggernauts resolve.

While for Harlies, easily PNG’s best player in Shellane Kopi leads an eager forward pack with the likes of Nicky Mori, Clara Biyama, Peta Pangkatana, Nivarny Opa, Agilea Nipal, Andrea Turalom and Taita Patrick to provide stiff opposition.

Whilst Lagona and fellow dual international in A’bau will be dangerous in the backs with their strong running game for Jugger, Harlies will look to match with their PNG Seven’s quota of Marie Biyama, Kymlie Rapilla, Darlene Aihi and rising star in Barbra Sigere, plus Zafira Pangkatana, speedster Grace Nawara, Mystica Pangkatana and playmaker Cynthia Peter amongst their rising talent.

The match should go down to the wire with all the best technically sound players in the country continuing the ongoing development of PNGs leading domestic competition.
