Boxers in training for NCD team

With the hypes building up to the 8th PNG Games, most sporting codes including athletes are fully into training mode.

One such club is the Iron Chief Boxing club based in Hohola who has more than 30 boxers training under coach Kevin Baki.

The boxers turn up for training at different times due to lack of training equipment’s which the club is in dire need of.

Coach Kevin Baki said “Preparations are fine as boxers are committed in coming to training every day and so every Sunday, we have our tournaments to keep them in form at Hohola 1.”

“We stage these fights from clubs from different suburbs in the city in preparation for the qualifying fights for a spot in the NCD team”

“We are in need for boxing equipment’s for training as at the moment we do not have proper equipment to train with and so we are asking any business houses who are willing to help us with equipment’s. We can wear their T– shirts with the company logos thus helping to advertise the company.”

“We are also reaching out to the NCD Governor and the member for Moresby North West if they can help as well.

“I know life is a bit hard but if they can chip in something to keep us going, we will be much appreciated”

“Currently it are looking out for more females because in this division we have a gap so we are trying to fill this area and also, we’re looking for heavy weights as well.

“At the moment we have Maryanne Kassan, Prisilla Wamiang, Theresea Jo and Anthonia Nicholas in training for the lighter weight,” added Baki.
