There may be recording artists and professional singers involved in the competition, but that doesn’t matter when you have hidden talents yet to be discovered coming forward and rocking the stage at Akaka Bar and Grill every Sunday.

The field of singers that have registered will give the established singers a good run over the next 2 months of competition and the sponsors, Papagraun are pleased with the turnout of talent.

Well known radio personality, Memafu Kapera was a surprise entrant and was impressive with his song choice of ‘Deep River Woman’ by Lionel Ritchie, which has proven to be a perfect choice as he was the 4th entrant to make it to the next round through the sponsors choice.

Each week, the judges will select the top 3 contestants, while the sponsor, Papagraun have one choice to make up the 4 weekly winners to advance each week to the next round.

For the first round, the contestants will sing their choice of songs; but it will get challenging for the singers in the next round as the judges will be selecting the songs for each contestant.

Contestants in the coming heats will be facing the challenge of their lives as they prepare to go head-to-head with established singers.

Murphy Buana reckons it will be a struggle for most of the artists that sing in tokples, because all the karaoke songs are in English.

“Not all artists do regular gigs around the city, but those who do sing at outings will have confidence going through the first round; it’s the second round where the judges will be making the song choices is where the challenge will be”, said Buana.
