Goal-keeper claims man of the match

Blessing Football Club goalkeeper Kopi Samuel was named the man of the match of the inaugural Maukele Beach soccer competition over the weekend on Fishermen Island.

Samuel was the golden hand who saved Blessing FC and led them to victory by winning the first-ever beach soccer grand final in Papua New Guinea.

The grand final match was played between Blessing FC and Arigo FC.

Kopi Samuel was outstanding with his clean saves and defensive goalkeeping throughout the entire 36th minute of the game.

Samuel performed to his best in front of his family who had encouraged him to play instead of going out fishing on the game days.

He would like to thank his family for their support and encouragement.

“I would like to thank my family for always encouraging me to take up sports especially beach soccer instead of going fishing on weekends.”

Samuel thank Joel Keimelo for bringing beach soccer onto the island and also PNGFA for the support in hosting referee courses and field preparation.

He was part of the Maukele FC that sails across the ocean and participated in the NCD Football Association competition last year.

The aspiring goalkeeper is keen to represent Papua New Guinea in beach soccer one day at an international level.

The Historical inaugural match will go down to the history of the Papua New Guinea Football Association as the first beach soccer grand final match and also the first beach soccer competition held in PNG.

The grand final was witnessed by Papua New Guinea Football Association president Mr.

John Kapi Natto, General Secretary Gordon Manub, and other staff from PNGFA.
