Goroka rugby league legends donate blood

Former players are rallying behind Goroka Lahanis Legends Foundation to give back to the communities where they can.

They started this initiative with blood donation to the Goroka Provincial Hospital this week.

A good number of them including Thompson Tete who motivated the team from sixth position in the knockouts to the grand final in the 2023 Digicel-Exxon Mobil Rugby League competition turned up at the hospital to donate blood.

Spokesman George Aba said the members of the foundation are mostly former players from 1999-2013.

“A few of us from 1999-2013 have decided to form this foundation to give back to our communities where we can in all sectors of life,” he said.

“Today, we have come to the hospital to donate our blood.

“The hospital can use our blood to treat patients that need blood.

“This is our first start and we will make more rounds.

“We stand as a group to promote awareness on health programs or highlight health issues, education programs and promote social activities through sports as well.”

He said business houses can engage them in advertising their products as well.

“We are also looking at going out of our own way to help ourselves and also to improve our living standards in the communities,” Mr Aba said.

“We have just started the foundation with few players within the town and it’s vicinity.

“We will need more members as the foundation grows.

“There will be registration fees to become a member.”
