Holmes facing ban; de Belin challenges grading

The Cowboys could be without star centre Val Holmes for the rest of the regular season after he was charged with a Careless High Tackle in Sunday’s loss to the Titans.

Holmes’ tackle on Jayden Campbell in the 20th minute at Cbus Super Stadium was deemed a Grade 2 by the match review committee and carries a three-game ban with an early guilty plea.

Should Holmes fight the charge at the judiciary and be found guilty at Panel, he would miss four games.

The Cowboys have a bye in Round 24 so only have four games left to play in the regular season.

Meanwhile, the Dragons have announced that Jack de Belin will head to the judiciary on Tuesday night to challenge the grading on his Dangerous Contact charge arising from Saturday’s game against Manly.

An unsuccessful appeal at the judiciary would mean the de Belin misses four matches.

The other players charged following Sunday’s matches were Bulldogs duo Reed Mahoney (Shoulder Charge) and Jake Averillo (Dangerous Contact).Mahoney can accept a $1000 fine with an early guilty plea, increasing to $1500 should he fight the charge and lose.

Averillo will be fined $750 with an early guilty plea or $1000 should he challenge the charge and be found guilty at the judiciary.

Panthers utility Tyrone Peachey will spend the next two games on the sidelines after entering an early guilty plea to a Grade 3 Careless High Tackle charge on Cronulla’s Jack Williams.

Peachey was sent to the sin bin following the 58th minute incident, and despite it being his first offence of that type, the high grading meant he faced a two-match ban with the early plea.

The experienced utility will miss the Panthers’ matches against the Storm and Sea Eagles. Sharks prop Braden Hamlin-Uele was cited for a third and subsequent Careless High Tackle offence and faces a $3,000 fine with an early guilty plea or two-match ban if found guilty at Judiciary.

Raiders fullback Sebastian Kris faces a fine of between $750-$1000 for Dangerous Contact, after a mid-air hit on opposite number Kalyn Ponga. Earlier in Round 22 Rabbitohs forward Keoan Koloamatangi was charged twice over separate shoulder charges on Wests Tigers prop David Klemmer in the 1st and 11th minutes of Friday night’s win.

South Sydney prop Davvy Moale was also been booked by the match review committee for a shoulder charge on Shawn Blore, while Wests Tigers rookie James Aitasi was charged for a careless high tackle.

Moale faces a two-match ban if he unsuccessfully challenges the charge at Tuesday night’s judiciary or a $3,000 fine if he pleads guilty.

Koloamatangi and Aitasi face fines. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Patrick Carrigan were both charged by the Match Review Committee following Thursday night’s clash between the Roosters and Broncos.

Waerea-Hargreaves was charged with a Grade 1 Careless High Tackle offence on Payne Haas and faces a fine of $3,000 with an early guilty plea.
