Institute provides training for soldiers

Ten Defence Force soldiers will complete their practical training with Mapex Training Institute today after completing their two-week short course training.

The course training and practical is sponsored by the Australian Defence Force under the Defence Corporation Program, an agreement between the PNGDF and the ADF to strengthen the relationship and help PNGDF develop professionally to support the force perform effectively.

The Defence Organisation’s Defence Cooperation Program is to allow the two forces to work effectively together in regional stabilisation, peacekeeping, disaster relief operations and supporting major national projects.

The DCP also helps develop a professional and capable Department of Defence that is able to support the PNGDF effectively.

Under the DCP understanding it provides education and training for PNGDF personnel to enhance skills and develop the force.

Private Yondi Danny who is among the first batch of 10 PNGDF personnels taking up the crane operator training said even though they deal with these equipment, the experience is new as other driving courses are provided by the department but this is a new experience for them.

“Last week we went through the theory and it was interesting to learn new things. Even though we work and see this equipment on a day-to-day basis, for us to learn how to drive it is new.

“Before we had no idea, now we know how and we would like to thank our trainer Kevin Hitalo and Mapex Training Institute for providing the course training.

“We look forward to having more training with the institute, they provide skills that are vital,” he said.

For those interested students and the general public, the enrolment for third batch is set for early September 2023.
