Kerowagi ignites anniversary spirit with celebration

“IN embracing a change of attitudes and self-reliance, we will witness tangible developments socially and economically.”

Member for Kerowagi Francis Siune made this call to his people at a three-day Independence extravaganza which which lit up Kerowagi with vibrant traditional dances, live bands, drama, a variety of food stalls, and games.

“PNG has reached 48 years of Independence, and in two years, it will commemorate its 50th jubilee.

The question to ask ourselves is:

Are we truly independent or still reliant?”

The first two days showcased traditional singsing, string bands, and plays across the three locations.

On the final day at the main arena (Kerowagi town), the atmosphere came alive to the beats of renowned PNG artists: Leonard Kania, Lista Serum, K-Dumen, and Uralom Kania.

People from five other districts in Chimbu Province, as well as neighbouring Jiwaka and Western Highlands provinces were drawn to the event.

The celebrations took place at three locations: Kerowagi town, Kup LLG, and Gena-Nogar, marking a historic milestone as the first and largest ever hosted by an MP.
