Lae Biscuit Company gets accreditation

The Lae Biscuit Company has become the first PNG-owned Food Manufacturing Company to receive this Global certification.

In 2021, Lae Biscuit Company along with 10 other food manufacturing companies in Papua New Guinea, met internationally recognised and approved food safety and control measures when awarded the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification by the Papua New Guinea Certification Services through the National Institute of Standards and Industrial Technology (NISIT) in PNG.

That process took the Company three (3) years to achieve the HACCP certification. And with this recent global recognition, it has taken the company more than a year to achieve the certification.

The company received confirmation over the Independence weekend that they had been awarded the certification.

Lae Biscuit Company Chairman, Ian Chow, in acknowledging this achievement of the company, said this is such a milestone accomplishment.

He thanked the managers and staff for working tirelessly behind the scenes and putting together all requirements to achieve this certification.

Lae Biscuit Company General Manager, Edwin Elmer Wong, says the company takes great pride in being the first PNG-owned company to be given this certification.

Adding that it starts from the supply of raw materials to line production and finish products, including the up-skilling of manpower to deliver the end product.

It has been a progressive process since the opening of the state-of-the-art Lae Biscuit Company factory in October 2017.

Wong said this certification guarantees Lae Biscuit as a food manufacturing company that produces trusted brands of exceptional quality and absolute value.

He went on to add that this will intensify quality production and productivity by identifying specific control points and implementing proper control measures.

Also guaranteeing the Company’s manufacturing safety systems and management, which now complies with the latest benchmarking requirements of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).

FSSC (Food Safety System Certification) 22000 is a Global Food Safety Initiative recognized food safety certification that was based on the standard and technical specification of ISO 22000, ISO 9001, ISO/TS 22002, and the FSSC22000 additional requirements.

It helps the organization to meet international food industry requirements.
